Junior Common Room Council

 

Junior Common Room Council (JCRC) refers all the student body in Kwame Nkrumah Hall. The JCR is led by The Junior Common Room Committee headed by the JCR President. The JCRC are elected by the members of the Junior Common room (JCR) to steer the affairs of the JCR in the hall. They form the JCRC executives and are accorded the function of executing their policies as mandated by the constitution of the Committee.

SPORTING ACTIVITIES IN THE HALL

The Sports Sections of the University of Cape Coast has joined forces so that all Halls of Residence, staff and the general students will benefit from a more cohesive, effective and user-friendly approach to sport. The Kwame Nkrumah Hall’s sport creates the platform for selecting of potential and talented affiliate athletes to represent the Hall in University, National and International competitions. It also serves as an avenue for socialization and learning ground for attributes of sportsmanship. The following are events organized by the University, of which the Hall participate:

  • Fresher’s Games

  • Inter-Hall Games

  • Championship Club Games

  • Hall Week Games*

  • SRC Games

  • Ghana Universities Sports Association (GUSA)

The Hall’s Sport Mission: We are driven to provide excellence in sport and recreation.

The key idea behind the collaboration of the Hall Management, JCRC and all students is to increase opportunities for everyone to engage in sport at whatever level suits them. The Hall Sports Program gives affiliates the opportunity to experience sports they would not normally play; in venues they would not normally have access to, under the guidance of qualified experience JCRC sport chairman.

These are held at the Hall’s Osagyefo Mini-Field and Multi-purpose sport complex (volleyball, basketball & Tennis). Kwame Nkrumah Hall Sports strive for excellence in the following disciplines:

ANNUAL PROGRAMMES MARKED BY THE HALL

  1. KWAME NKRUMAH HALL WEEK CELEBRATION

This is annual celebration by Hall Council & Management, JCRC and entire students’ affiliates to mark the number of years and the Hall’s activities. This gargantuan annual event usually takes stage in the month of March in the second semester from Wednesday and ends on Sunday. Areas of activities include Education, Entertainment, Sports, and Socialization among others. Every year, a Hall Week planning Committee is set up by the JCRC to draw a detailed program to commemorate the week-long celebration.

2.  THE DIASPORA HOME COMING CELEBRATION

Diaspora Home Coming Celebration is annual programme organized by Hall Council and Management in collaboration with the JCRC for all Non- Residents Affiliates of the Hall. This well patronized celebration by all continuing students affiliated to the Hall of Excellence, was initiated due to the University policy In-out-out-out.

  1. This annual programme always aimed at building strong Diaspora relation and coordination with a sense of belongingness and responsibility in building our noble Hall as the best outstanding Hall in Africa.

The main objectives include:

  • To Have interaction with those in the Diaspora

  • To make them have a sense of belonging

  • Get them closer to the Hall Management

  • To give them a platform to channel all welfare issues to the Hall Council and Management



3.  ALUMNI HOME COMING

The Executives of the Alumni Association every year organises home coming and breakfast meeting during hall week celebration. This annual program is met to bring all alumni across the country and beyond to participate in the hall’s activities and provide mentorship for affiliates who are still on campus. The meeting creates the opportunity for management, staff and students to deliberate on way forward for the building of the hall to higher height.



 

4.  OSAGYEFO PARADE

The JCRC in collaboration with the management of the hall to embark on this annual parade in honour of Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, the first president of the republic of Ghana. This parade marks the birthday celebration of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah on 21st September of every year.

The celebration is usually led by the hall’s cadet and the regimental band.
